End Slavery Tennessee CEO steps aside

Derri Smith has stepped down as CEO of Nashville-based nonprofit End Slavery Tennessee.

Smith (pictured) founded the entity that would become End Slavery Tennessee in 2008 and will continue working on its board, according to a release. The nonprofit as it exists now started in 2012.

“Changing roles will provide me more time for personal life, but also more time to devote to End Slavery Tennessee in the areas where I can be most effective,” Smith said in a release. “It is a win-win.”

Marjorie Quin will begin work as the nonprofit’s new CEO, effective June 1. Quin led Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and Vanderbilt University 2010 research and reporting that laid the groundwork for more than 50 pieces of legislation that strengthened Tennessee's responses to human trafficking. Quin also worked with other government agencies to craft human trafficking response strategies.

At TBI for 20 years, Quin supervised the first-ever statewide human trafficking law enforcement unit.

Quin received her M.S. degree in public service management from Cumberland University (at which she serves on the faculty) and a B.S. degree in criminology from Auburn University. She graduated from the 241st session of the F.B.I. National Academy.

End Slavery Tennessee has a staff of 13.
